SHARIA, ISLAM AND THE AMERICAN LEFT
Sharia is “strict Islamic law designed to guide devout Muslims in their personal and professional dealings.” Sounds pretty reasonable, doesn’t it? Disparate groups on the left are coalescing in a common effort to portray conservatives as harboring a misinformed paranoia of Sharia Law and the threat it poses to the U.S.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time researching the tenets of Sharia; make no mistake: The goal of authoritative Sharia Law is the establishment of a one-world Islamic order by any means necessary. Under Sharia, there is no tolerance of other religions, no equal rights for women and children, no freedom of speech.
Criticism of Islam or leaving the faith is a crime punishable by death. Forced child marriages, the beating of “disobedient” wives, public hanging of homosexuals, and persecution of those who do not embrace Islam (Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, others) are basic tenets of Sharia Law.
Consider the following:
Sharia on family law:
- A woman is equal to one half of a man (one quarter of a man in some areas of the Middle East)
- Virgins may be married against their will by their fathers or grandfathers
- Arab women may not marry non-Arab men
- Women may not leave the house without a husband’s permission. In some countries, they must be accompanied by chaperones
- Muslim men may marry 4 women, including Christians and Jews; Muslim women may marry Muslims only
- Men may beat “insubordinate” wives
Sharia on Jihad and religion:
- Offensive war (Jihad) against non-Muslims is a religious obligation
- Apostasy from Islam is punishable by death without trial
- Non-Muslims ruled by Islam must follow Sharia, including the payment of discriminatory “dhimmi” taxes.
- Lying to infidels during Jihad, or to promote Islam, is permissible
Sharia on human rights:
- Homosexuals must be killed
- Slavery is permitted and is considered legitimate
- Muslim men have unlimited sexual rights over women, including female slaves
- Female sexual mutilation (cliterectomy) is obligatory
- Adultery is punishable with death by stoning
- Women’s testimony in court is worth half that of men (and is permitted only in property cases)
- Non-Muslims may not testify in Sharia courts
Incredulously, “the party of the rights of women and gays” not only defends Sharia and Islam; it accuses those of us who are opposed of intolerance, irrational fear, and bigotry. How strongly would the left support these tenets if they were included in a Republican platform?
Once again, the hypocrisy of the left knows no bounds.
As Time magazine puts it, “To be a Muslim in America now is to endure slings and arrows against your faith…indeed, nearly half of Americans say Islam is more likely than other religions to encourage violence.” (To quote Charlie Sheen, “DUH.”)
I can’t decide which part of this incredibly ironic statement is the most ludicrous. Perhaps we should check with Christians throughout the Middle East about the “slings and arrows” they endure while attempting to survive among the “peaceful” followers of Islam.
“Nearly half” of us say Islam is most likely to encourage violence? Really? Is that all? Which religion comes in second?
